Salesforce invests US$1 billion to build AI agent hub in Mexico

Salesforce will invest US$1 billion in its Mexico operations over the next five years, significantly expanding its presence in Latin America to support a growing enterprise demand for artificial intelligence agents. The investment will establish a new AI hub in Mexico City, intended to accelerate the adoption of autonomous AI solutions across the region and help businesses integrate AI agents with their human workforce.

The core of the initiative is the deployment of Salesforce’s Agentforce platform, a system designed to allow autonomous AI agents to handle customer service, sales, and operational tasks alongside human employees. This strategy aims to transform client companies into what Salesforce terms “Agentic Enterprises.” The funding will finance a new five-story office in Mexico City, establish a Global Delivery Center to provide consulting services, and support a major recruitment drive in Mexico and the broader Latin American market.

Expanding Regional Operations

The new hub will be located in the Polanco district of Mexico City, in the Miyana II building, with capacity for up to 2,000 employees. This facility will house the Global Delivery Center, a key part of Salesforce’s professional services division. The center will offer consulting and implementation support in English, Spanish, and Portuguese to clients across the Americas. Salesforce has operated in Mexico since 2006 and currently serves major clients in the country, including the theme park operator Xcaret, food manufacturer Grupo Bafar, and beverage company FEMSA. The company’s existing ecosystem in Mexico includes approximately 1,000 regional partners and resellers.

A Commitment to the ‘Agentic Enterprise’

The investment is framed as a central component of Salesforce’s vision to help organizations evolve into “Agentic Enterprises.” This model involves the seamless integration of autonomous AI agents with human teams to manage a wide range of business functions. These AI agents, powered by large language models, can process natural language queries and execute complex tasks without direct human intervention for each action. Tasks can include responding to customer inquiries, updating internal records, or generating reports. Marc Benioff, Chair and CEO of Salesforce, stated that the company is “accelerating the rise of Agentic Enterprises, with humans and AI agents collaborating to transform industries.” He described the investment as a commitment to Mexico as a key market for AI-powered growth.

Early Adopters and Platform Support

Several major companies in Latin America have already begun to adopt the Agentforce platform. These early adopters include the Brazilian media company Globo, the Chilean retail operator Grupo Falabella, and the Colombian pensions and investment manager Protección. The new Global Delivery Center in Mexico City will provide these organizations and future clients with specialized implementation and ongoing consulting services. Phil Sebok, Country Manager for Salesforce Mexico, said that “Agentforce is the catalyst for transformation” and that the investment will help companies “augment human workforces with agents to create new opportunities, revenue streams and ways of working.”

Economic and Workforce Implications

Mexican officials have lauded the investment as a significant driver for the national economy and a testament to the country’s growing technological capabilities. Marcelo Ebrard, Secretary of Economy for Mexico’s Secretariat of Economy, noted that the investment “will not only create jobs and build AI skills within Mexico but will also position our country as a key consultancy hub for markets across Latin America on AI agents and more.” The expansion is expected to create numerous jobs and foster a more skilled workforce in the region, focusing on advanced AI implementation and management.

Fostering Local Talent and Education

Beyond the primary investment in infrastructure and hiring, Salesforce has also committed to supporting local education initiatives. The company announced a US$250,000 donation to Amigos de Filantrofilia, a Mexican non-profit organization. The funds will be used to support AI education programs for students, aiming to build a pipeline of technical skills related to AI. This initiative is part of a broader effort by Salesforce to contribute to workforce development in the region, ensuring that the local talent pool can meet the demands of the expanding AI sector.
